About us
One office, our own cars, and a phone that gets answered
Rental Moniz is a licensed, independent car rental company in Santa Cruz — about five minutes from Madeira Airport. We are not a franchise, and there is no call centre.
Why we do it this way
Most people arriving in Madeira have already had the same experience somewhere else: a cheap headline price, then a queue, then a hard sell on insurance, then €1,200 blocked on a card for three weeks.
We decided not to run that business. Our price includes the full cover and the unlimited kilometres. We do not take a deposit and we do not need your credit card. If you cancel, you cancel — there is nothing to refund because we never charged you.
It makes us a little more expensive than the cheapest headline rate you will find online. It also means the number you see is the number you pay.
Licensed and insured
A registered Portuguese rental company operating under Madeiran regional law, with full commercial cover on every vehicle.
On the island
Our office is on Rua Nova do Janeiro in Santa Cruz. If there is a problem with the car, we come to you.
Our own fleet
We own and maintain the cars ourselves. They are serviced here, cleaned here, and we know each one's history.
Consumer rights
We keep the Livro de Reclamações, the official Portuguese complaints book, and take it seriously.
